• Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn laboratory databases and LIMS software.
• Ability to communicate professionally with laboratory staff and clients.

• Inspect samples and packaging for proper condition, labeling, completeness, and compliance with applicable submission requirements.
• Review Chain of Custody (COC) forms and other accompanying documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Document and communicate discrepancies, damaged samples, missing information, or other conditions that may affect testing.
• Assign laboratory identification numbers and accurately enter sample information into the LIMS or other laboratory databases.
• Label samples, containers, plates, and other materials to ensure accurate identification and traceability.
• Verify sample quantities, test requests, sample types, and other required information before samples are released for testing.
• Maintain accurate records of sample receipt, condition, storage requirements, and transfer between laboratory personnel or departments.
• Ensure samples are properly stored according to established procedures and required environmental conditions.
• Coordinate with laboratory personnel regarding the availability and status of received samples.
• Assist with client communication related to incomplete or discrepant sample submissions, as directed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient sample receiving and accessioning area.
• Follow established laboratory procedures, quality requirements, and safety practices.
• Perform other administrative or laboratory support duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Accessioning Technician is responsible for the accurate receipt, inspection, identification, documentation, and accessioning of samples received by the laboratory. This position plays a critical role in maintaining sample integrity and traceability from the time samples are received through their transfer to the appropriate testing area.

The Laboratory Accessioning Technician works closely with laboratory personnel, administrative staff, and clients to ensure samples and accompanying documentation are complete and meet established laboratory requirements.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the General Manager, or other designated supervisor.

Position Focus

The primary focus of this position is sample receipt, accessioning, documentation, and traceability. The Laboratory Accessioning Technician does not perform analytical testing unless specifically trained and authorized to do so.
