  • Developing and defending sophisticated total compensation surveys (incorporating base salary, education and POST incentives, longevity pay, uniform allowances, pension contributions, and regional cost-of-living adjustments such as BLS MARPP MSA methodology)
  • Analyzing public agency financial documents, including CAFRs, adopted budgets, long-range financial plans, and fiscal projections
  • Leading or co-leading negotiations with the objective of securing timely, equitable agreements or reaching impasse within a limited number of sessions through meticulous advance preparation.

Mastagni Holstedt, APC, a premier California labor and employment law firm, seeks a talented Labor Relations Consultant to represent public safety unions—including police officers, firefighters, and related classifications—as well as other public sector and select private sector bargaining units. The role centers on high-impact collective bargaining under the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act.

If you have strong skills with numbers and finance—especially in total compensation surveys, Annual Comprehensive Financial Report analysis, budgeting, and public finance—and you excel at thorough preparation for high-stakes negotiations, this role offers an outstanding opportunity. The successful candidate will interface directly with bargaining representatives of California cities and counties, including chiefs of police, fire chiefs, city managers, mayors, sheriffs, and other public officials on matters relating collective bargaining and affecting public safety.   • Intellectual agility and eagerness to learn the firm’s distinctive, highly effective methodologies for survey development and proposal drafting; and
  • Outstanding written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Prior labor-relations experience is beneficial yet not essential.
