Bechtel is seeking an entry- or early-career Labor Relations professional to monitor field labor practices and assist in staffing plans, wage trend studies, and craft training programs on a New Albany project in Ohio.

You will help ensure compliance with labor laws, support contract negotiations, and facilitate communication to foster positive workplace relations on a major semiconductor manufacturing initiative led from New Albany, OH.

Qualifications

  • University Hire with less than 1 year of experience or 4–5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of labor relations on field projects or in an office environment.
  • Understanding of labor laws and contract negotiation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs research and develops statistical information and studies on productivity and labor trends.
  • Documents and maintains files related to jurisdictional work assignments and investigations into misconduct.
  • Extracts information from labor union contracts and prepares wage bulletins or trend studies.
  • Follows labor contract negotiation proceedings and disseminates information on progress.
  • Maintains records on contract expiration data.
  • Monitors work practices daily on field projects and advises on labor problems.
  • Assists with development and presentation of craft training and orientation programs.

Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data center markets. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the M&T global business unit also includes colleagues working in Arizona, Ohio, Texas, India, andadditionalproject locations around the world.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will monitor work practices daily on a field project and advise superiors of observed or anticipated labor problems. You will support staffing plans, wage trend studies, and the development and presentation of craft training and orientation programs. Your work will contribute to positive workplace relationships by facilitating communication and ensuring compliance with labor laws. #LI-TH1

Major Responsibilities:
  • Performs research and develops statistical information and studies on issues such as productivity, labor union or construction industry trends and practices (Functional Role)
  • Documents and maintains files associated with jurisdictional work assignments (LR) and keeps records on investigations about employee misconduct
  • Extracts information from labor union contracts and prepares wage bulletins or wage trend studies
  • Follows labor contract negotiation proceedings and disseminates information on progress
  • Maintains records on contract expiration data
  • Monitors work practices daily on a field project and advises superior of observed and/or anticipated labor problems
  • Assists with the development and presentation of craft training and orientation programs for manual employees and their supervisors, such as onboarding, work rule enforcement, and grievance/complaint procedures for craft professionals
  • Develops knowledge of practical application of labor laws, equal employment/affirmative action legislation and related government policies
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a University Hire with less than 1 year of experience or 4-5 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of Labor Relations functions on field projects or in an office environment.
  • Basic knowledge of labor and employment laws and related legislation.
  • Basic knowledge of contract negotiation practices and formal and informal grievance hearings.
  • Basic knowledge of jurisdictional work assignment practices.
  • Basic knowledge of organizational structure and work practices of labor unions.
  • Basic knowledge of Labor Relations organization policies and practices.
  • Understands working with Local Unions and Building Trades Councils.
  • Skills in written and verbal communication.
  • Experience in researching and developing reports and collecting statistical data.
  • Demonstrated skill in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
