Qualifications

• Holds and maintains a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential administered by the NBSTSA or an equivalent national credentialing organization.
• Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent training in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or PHSCC with CST credentialing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating room and sterile field for procedures, set up supplies and equipment using sterile technique.
• Assist in receiving, labeling and verifying sterile solutions and medications during surgery as directed.
• Verify patient identity, surgical site, and planned procedure.
• Assist in patient positioning and gowning/gloving procedures.
• Hand instruments to the surgeon and maintain counts of sponges, needles and instruments.
