Performs specific maternal, infant, and surgical care activities as well as OR surgical technologist duties and non-professional activities under the direction of a registered nurse. Under the direct supervision of an RN, the Labor and Delivery surgical technologist provides care necessary to meet physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of the neonate and women of childbearing age consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the VBMC nursing department and hospital administration. The surgical technologist will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the technical competencies and provision of care to the patient population served in the division of Maternal Child Health.
