Job summary

St. David's Georgetown Hospital is seeking a Labor and Delivery Nursing Manager to oversee all unit functions, ensure high-quality patient care, and collaborate with the medical staff. The role requires clinical leadership, staffing oversight, and budget involvement.

Applicants should be an RN with an Associate degree, ACLS and Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months, and a minimum of 2 years in the unit. Commissioning 24/7 coverage is typical, with opportunities to guide a high-performing team.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of start date.
  • Basic Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months of start date.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Associate degree minimum.
  • 2+ years of clinical practice in the unit specialty.
  • Previous Charge Nurse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate all functions in the unit on assigned shifts.
  • Maintain communication with management and Medical Staff on issues.
  • Manage staff deployment and delegation based on patient needs.
  • Provide supervision, evaluate performance, and address policy compliance.
  • Routinely round with staff and patients with Nursing Director.
  • Monitor patient care quality and core measures, maintain PI data.
  • Assist with 24/7 unit coverage and act as RN when needed.
  • Assist in budget development and maintenance.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the unit’s Director or designee, the Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the unit on his/her designated shifts. In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in unit. Ensures that Departmental mission and objectives are maintained for the unit with interpretation of these objectives to staff as necessary. Coordinates Departmental activities with responsibility for the assessment of the quality and efficiency of these activities. Assesses complexity of patient care and Department service needs to coordinate assignment of nursing staff to meet all required services on the unit.

  • You will demonstrate sound knowledge base in nursing practice and its clinical application to the patient population served in the unit, including the operation of equipment, and policy and procedures used in the delivery of patient care in the unit.
  • You will maintain communication with other members of the management team regarding potential/actual problems concerns, and with Medical Staff issues. Assists with establishing and maintaining communication channels with Medical Staff and departments in the hospital.
  • You will manage personnel providing direct patient care, with delegation of activities based on patient care needs and competencies of available patient care staff.
  • You will provide direct and ongoing supervision of staff with regard to conflict resolution and personnel policy compliance, including input and/or completion of performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • You will round on staff and patients daily in cooperation with the Nursing Director.
  • You will monitor and maintains high standards regarding patient care and oversees compliance with core measures on applicable patients. Keeps PI Data and Streetwise up-to-date.
  • You will assist Director in 24/7 coverage of unit including working as an RN when needed.
  • You will assist with development and maintenance of unit budget.

What qualifications you will need:
