Job summary

Palm Beach State College is seeking a Lab Tutor in Communication to support students with learning strategies and lab resources. You will conduct tutoring sessions, provide feedback, review materials, and collaborate with faculty to enhance the learning environment.

  • Encourages use of lab by students through communication with faculty and development and delivery of lab orientation programs.
  • Assists with initiatives aimed at improving student retention and completion.
  • Participates as active member within the assigned clusters.
  • Creates an engaging learning environment and enhances student confidence and interest in learning.
  • Maintains an awareness of current College and department policies and guidelines.

About This Role

Responsible for fostering independent learning by supporting students in developing learning strategies and reviewing concepts taught in class. Provides individual tutoring and organized study group sessions. Collaborates with supervisors in the review and development of lab resources and programming.

Acceptable education required in one of the following related areas: English, Secondary Education or greater, Communication, Journalism, TESOL, Reading, Developmental Education, Language Arts, Business, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a similar applicable field of study.

Acceptable related experience to include, but not limited to, teaching, tutoring, training or adult education, developmental education, or curriculum development.

What a day of a Lab Tutor, Communication looks like:
  • Conducts tutoring sessions with individual or multiple students in person and virtual environment.
  • Provides constructive feedback and suggestions on student assignments.

  • Maintains and enhances current knowledge of field or profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings and professional events outside of college locations, as needed.
