Job summary

Mercy Health in Ohio is seeking a Lab Transcriptionist to interpret and transcribe dictation into patient history, exam notes, operative reports, and discharge summaries within their Integrated Lab setting.

You will enter data into electronic health records, maintain strict patient confidentiality, and support pathology processes, including slide preparation and sendouts, in a collaborative hospital environment.

Qualifications

• High School/GED is required.
• Associates degree in Medical Transcription preferred.
• CMT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transcribes medical reports, summaries, and other documents from dictated messages.
• Provides online copies to physicians for review and signature with corrections as noted.
• Operates transcription equipment and related software within EHR systems.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per guidelines and regulations.
• Reviews documents for quality and accuracy to ensure patient care is not compromised.
• Creates templates and data into EHRs for updated records and archives.
• Prepares pathology sendouts and slides for reference labs.
• Loads overdue logs and completes registration as needed.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Lab Transcriptionist interprets and transcribes the dictation into patient history, exam notes, operative reports, referral letters, discharge summaries, and other documents. Follows patient confidentiality guidelines and legal documentation requirements. Enters medical reports into electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Essential Job Functions

• Transcribes medical reports, summaries, and other medical documents from recorded messages from health care providers.
• Provides online copies of transcribed documents to physicians or other providers for review and signature, making corrections or changes as noted.
• Works with transcription equipment that can include speech recognition equipment, word processing, and computer software.
• Maintains strict adherence to patient confidentiality according to provider standards and government regulations.
• Reviews transcription documents for quality assurance and precision to spot and correct any errors that could impact patient care and medical liability.
• Creates templates and enters data into electronic health record (EHR) systems for updated record keeping and archives.
• Prepares pathology sendouts.
• Prepares slides and blocks for reference labs.
• Pulls overdue logs.
• Completes registration as needed.
