Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under limited supervision coordinates and supervises the work activities of lower level machinists and other skilled workers, primarily within the CETL shop which supports research and teaching endeavors in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences.

JOB DUTIES
  • 35% - To consult with and advise faculty and graduate students on the design, construction, selection, and/or modification of equipment and supplies required for research projects
  • 25% - To supervise and construct complex electromechanical laboratory equipment. Requires experience with electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
  • 10% - To support the maintenance and operation of CETL and Rich Lab facilities
  • 10% - To train and supervise graduate students and technicians on the proper use of CETL shop equipment. Must be familiar with and able to operate a milling machine, lathe, band saw, shear, and welding equipment.
  • 10% - To maintain administrative records for the CETL shop. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating spreadsheets, as well as preparing and attaching tags to compressed gas cylinders.
  • 5% - To operate and maintain the department’s heavy equipment, including the Geoprobe and forklift. Responsibilities include instructing students and faculty on the proper use of the Geoprobe, ensuring the Geoprobe is properly loaded onto a trailer for transportation to field sites, dismounting and storing the Geoprobe and trailer in a secure location after use, and operating the forklift to move large items on and off trucks and within CETL.
  • 5% - To perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree in a health-related field and journey-level work experience in the specialty area; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a health-related or technology field and advanced work experience in the specialty area. A master's degree in a health-related field and entry-level experience in the specialty area may be substituted for the requirements stated above. Previous technical supervisory work experience is required for supervisory positions.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range $44,653.00 - $57,000.00 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Emergency Response - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is required to respond in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on call.
