Job summary

At Afton in Sauget, IL, a Laboratory Technician performs industry and lab tests, logs samples, and maintains a safe, clean work area. The role includes lab maintenance, monitoring emergency systems, and providing first aid during emergencies.

Overtime may be required as needed. The candidate should have an Associate’s degree or equivalent, with lab techniques experience; a Bachelor’s in chemistry or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Skills and experience in general laboratory techniques and practices.
• Bachelor’s degree including laboratory courses
• Analytical chemistry experience

Responsibilities

• Perform industry and other laboratory tests using established procedures, including cleaning glassware at test completion.
• Logging samples in computer, entering testing results, and sending electronic reports when testing is completed.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment including safety and housekeeping inspections
• Lab maintenance – changing out gas cylinders, filling solvent reservoirs, and taking out solvent waste.
• Monitoring emergency phone, fire panel, and diesel pumps.
• Provide first aid during off-shifts and emergencies.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed/required.
