Job summary

SPL in Reading, PA is hiring a Laboratory Technician II for our environmental testing laboratory. You will perform inorganic sample preparation, analytical testing, and quality control, using instruments, data review, and troubleshooting to ensure timely, accurate results.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science and 2+ years of lab experience, with proficiency in multiple analytical techniques and data management in LIMS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science required.
  • 2+ years of hands-on analytical lab experience, preferably in environmental testing.
  • Experience with inorganic analysis and multiple analytical techniques preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inorganic sample preparation, analytical testing, and quality control per approved methods and SOPs.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instruments; perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Review analytical data, perform calculations, and investigate discrepancies or out-of-control conditions.
  • Maintain accurate lab records, enter results into LIMS, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with team to prioritize workloads and support cross-training.
  • Contribute to audits, corrective actions, and SOP revisions for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain an organized, well-supplied laboratory environment and inventory.

We’re seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician II to join our environmental laboratory team in Reading, PA.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional to expand their expertise in inorganic analysis while contributing to accurate, timely, and high-quality testing. The role combines hands‑on sample preparation and analysis with instrumentation, data review, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is technically capable, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow within a collaborative, quality-focused laboratory team.

**Please note - This position follows a Monday - Friday schedule of 6 AM to 2:30 PM, with rotating weekend and holiday coverage required.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform inorganic sample preparation, analytical testing, and quality control activities in accordance with approved methods, SOPs, and regulatory requirements
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment, including routine preventive maintenance
  • Review and interpret analytical data, perform calculations, and investigate or elevate discrepancies, unusual findings, and out-of-control conditions
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, enter results in LIMS, and prepare reports as required
  • Collaborate with team members and management to prioritize workloads, meet turnaround expectations, and support cross-training
  • Contribute to audits, corrective actions, SOP revisions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-supplied laboratory, including glassware, inventory, and equipment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline
  • 2+ years of professional hands‑on analytical laboratory experience, preferably within environmental testing
  • Demonstrated experience with BOD/CBOD, IC, FIA, spectrophotometry, wet chemistry, SFA, titrations, or reagent preparation, with proficiency in at least two areas required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and LIMS

Work Schedule
  • Full-time, on-site position
  • Monday - Friday schedule from 6 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, rotating weekends and holidays, and one Sunday per month
