Job summary

Star Plastics LLC in Ravenswood, West Virginia, is seeking a production lab technician to perform tests and compare products to standards to ensure the desired characteristics before release to customers.

The role covers shift start up/shutdown, testing to specs, monitoring production runs, communicating non-conformances, and COA submission for QA review, with safety and housekeeping diligence and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferably, a minimum of 6 months of experience in a production role.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for the pre-screening lab exam.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training, with the ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs shift start up and shutdown procedures, reviewing logs, test samples, and line formulas.
  • Performs all testing requirements to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Monitors/evaluates production runs, makes necessary changes to meet target specifications.
  • Communicates in timely fashion all non-conformances to affected individuals.
  • Submits COA to Quality Control Manager for final review.
  • Ensures housekeeping and safety standards are met.
  • Willing to support customer demand when overtime is necessary.

With accomplished full-service labs to develop, test, and process materials, Star Plastics LLC offers high quality custom color compounding (known for lot-to-lot consistency), and sourcing, supplying and tolling polymer services.

Summary

This position performs various tests, compares product to standard, to ensure the desired product characteristics are achieved before material is released to the customer.

Essential Functions
  • Performs shift start up and shutdown procedures including determining status of operation from previous shift’s lab technicians, review log book, test sample log and line formula board
  • Performs all testing requirements to ensure product specifications are met
  • Monitors/evaluates production runs, makes necessary changes to meet target specifications
  • Communicates in timely fashion all non-conformances to affected individuals
  • Submits COA to Quality Control Manager for final review
  • Ensures housekeeping and safety standards are met
  • Willing to support customer demand when overtime is necessary

Required Education & Experience

Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 80 lbs. at waist level, up to 80 lbs. at floor level, and up to 40 lbs. at elevated level on a rare basis when moving products
  • Display average coordination with both hands on a continuous basis while performing job tasks
  • Perform elevated work on an occasional basis when handling products
  • Stoop, kneel or squat on an occasional basis when handling products
  • Reach forward and to the side on an occasional basis when handling products
  • Stand on a continuous basis and walk on a frequent basis during the course of each shift
  • Climb steps on an occasional basis
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per shift
  • Ability to be on feet for up to 8-12 hours per shift
  • Climb steps/ladders on an occasional basis
