Job summary

GLIDE is seeking a Lab Technician to perform high-volume phlebotomy and CLIA‑waived testing for HIV, HCV, and STIs in its HEAT program. You will counsel clients, conduct risk assessments, and link participants to healthcare and social support services.

The role emphasizes trauma‑informed care, coordination with research activities, and community outreach, with on‑site work in a fast‑paced setting. Strong administrative skills and BLS/CA credentials are required.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of similar HIV/HCV/STI prevention, phlebotomy or testing experience.
• CA Rapid HIV/HCV Test Counselor certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• Understanding of Harm Reduction as a public health model.
• Familiarity with social determinants of health (SDOH) and homelessness.
• Experience with mobile testing, street-based settings, or venue-based testing.
• Experience working with PWUD and people living with HIV/HCV.
• Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques and health education.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with good judgment.
• Cultural humility and ability to work across cultures.
• Valid CA Driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-volume phlebotomy for STI testing and research specimens.
• Conduct CLIA‑waived and moderate complexity tests (rapid HIV, HCV, syphilis).
• Process and transport specimens to off-site labs per safety standards.
• Provide risk-reduction counseling and disclosure sessions.
• Maintain client records and complete documentation in CTL and EMR systems.
• Coordinate outreach and testing in community settings and events.
• Assist with mobile testing and health fair activities.
• Ensure tests are performed per clinic guidelines and document results.
