Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is hiring a Laboratory Technician-CAS to support instructional laboratories within the CAS. You will prepare reagents, media, and microbial cultures and assemble materials for labs, while maintaining records for lab management.

Under supervision, you will assist in chemical waste disposal, supervise undergraduate staff, order supplies, and ensure proper storage and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or a related field.
• Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the supervisor, aids in chemical waste disposal for teaching labs and oversees safety inspections for laboratories as assigned.
• Coordinates and manages undergraduate employees to aid in preparing chemicals and reagents for instructional labs as assigned.
• Orders reagents and supplies for instructional labs and other needs.
• Receives incoming supply orders; labels and dates all appropriate supplies, stores at proper temperature, checks expiration dates and rotates stock as needed.
• Maintains records and files for laboratory management. Maintains laboratory processing area, equipment and instrumentation according to regulatory guidelines and SOPs.
• Writes and submits incident reports for chemical spills and accidents that occur in research and instructional laboratories.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
