Job summary

ChampionX is seeking a Lab Technician for a 10-month temporary assignment in Sugar Land, TX. This role supports routine and advanced wet chemistry testing, sample preparation, and data reporting, with potential extension based on performance and business needs.

The position requires strong lab skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A related degree or substantial lab experience is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 5+ years lab experience, or Associate’s degree with 2+ years in a lab, or Bachelor's degree with lab experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• General chemistry laboratory experience.
• Immigration sponsorship not available for this role.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced wet chemistry laboratory testing and analysis.
• Prepare, process, and analyze crude and related samples per established procedures.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation.
• Document test results, observations, and data accurately.
• Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
• Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and work areas per safety and quality standards.
• Follow laboratory safety protocols and SOPs.
• Collaborate with team to support research, testing, and QA initiatives.
• Utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for data management, reporting, and communication.

What You Will Do:

• Perform routine and advanced wet chemistry laboratory testing and analysis
• Prepare, process, and analyze crude and related sample in accordance with established procedures
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation
• Accurately document test results, observations, and analytical data
• Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to internal stakeholders
• Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and work areas in compliance with safety and quality standards
• Follow laboratory safety protocols and standard operating procedures
• Collaborate with team members to support research, testing, and quality assurance initiatives
• Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for data management, reporting, presentations and communication

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED with a minimum five years of experience working in a lab environment, OR, an Associate’s Degree in a related field of study (e.g. lab technician programs, college coursework in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) with a minimum of two years of experience OR a Bachelor's Degree Work experience in a lab environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• General chemistry laboratory experience
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Physical Demands:

Role is deemed safety-sensitive and may be subject to employer or customer drug testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience handling and testing oil samples
• Previous Production Chemistry / Oil and Gas Laboratory Setting experience
• Hands on experience with Gas Chromatography (GC)
• Experience with CHNS Elemental Analysis
• Experience using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
