The lab technician will assist in scientific and managerial aspects of the Kardon research laboratory, which studies the molecular mechanisms and cell-cell interactions regulating muscle development, regeneration, and effects of viral infection on muscle structure and function using cutting-edge techniques. We are particularly focused on muscle stem cells and their interaction with the surrounding connective tissue. More information on research is available at http://www.kardonlab.org/. The technician will assist in managing a mouse colony as well as conduct supervised research leading to publications. The technician must be reliable, well-organized, detail-oriented, and excited about research in a team environment.
The work environment is primarily an office setting with exposure to infectious diseases, oils, hazards, and animals. Physical requirements include hearing, listening, talking, repetitive hand motions, walking, standing, sitting, bending, and reaching overhead, with varying frequencies.
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and terminology. Skilled in laboratory equipment use, data analysis, and report preparation. Effective communication skills are required. OSHA training and animal care certification may be required.
