Job Summary

The lab technician will assist in scientific and managerial aspects of the Kardon research laboratory, which studies the molecular mechanisms and cell-cell interactions regulating muscle development, regeneration, and effects of viral infection on muscle structure and function using cutting-edge techniques. We are particularly focused on muscle stem cells and their interaction with the surrounding connective tissue. More information on research is available at http://www.kardonlab.org/. The technician will assist in managing a mouse colony as well as conduct supervised research leading to publications. The technician must be reliable, well-organized, detail-oriented, and excited about research in a team environment.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in managing mouse colony, including setting up and monitoring matings, genotyping mice, and maintaining a database of mouse lines.
2. Assist in muscle development and regeneration experiments, working collaboratively with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
3. Harvest, prepare, and process tissue for histological staining, immunofluorescence, and RNA in situ hybridization, with a focus on confocal and 2-photon imaging.
4. Assist in tissue culture experiments.
5. Perform molecular biology experiments, including western blots, qPCR, and cloning.
6. Assist with RNA-seq experiments, both bulk and single-cell.
7. Manage laboratory supplies, ordering, stocking, and equipment maintenance.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work environment is primarily an office setting with exposure to infectious diseases, oils, hazards, and animals. Physical requirements include hearing, listening, talking, repetitive hand motions, walking, standing, sitting, bending, and reaching overhead, with varying frequencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and terminology. Skilled in laboratory equipment use, data analysis, and report preparation. Effective communication skills are required. OSHA training and animal care certification may be required.

Additional Information
