Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Lab Technician to support the day-to-day operations of our San Diego validation and test laboratory. This is an entry- to mid-level position that combines practical technical skills with strong organizational discipline. The ideal candidate will serve as a key contributor on the lab floor — setting up and operating test equipment, maintaining lab assets, supporting engineers during test builds, and ensuring the lab environment stays orderly, calibrated, and ready for action.

Responsibilities

• Support daily lab activities including equipment setup, teardown, and general lab housekeeping to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient workspace.
• Assist with lab asset tracking — logging new equipment receipts, affixing asset tags, updating inventory records, and supporting periodic audits.
• Set up and operate RF and electronic test equipment including network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, and oscilloscopes under the direction of validation or product engineers.
• Support bring-up, characterization, and reliability testing activities (e.g., HTOL, ESD) by preparing boards, loading devices, connecting test fixtures, and monitoring ongoing test runs.
• Assist validation and test engineers with Advantest 93K ATE platform and Chroma handler operations — including device loading, handler setup, and basic troubleshooting.
• Maintain the equipment calibration schedule — coordinating pickup and return of instruments, updating calibration logs, and flagging overdue or out-of-tolerance equipment.
• Support sample preparation and shipment activities including part baking, tray packaging, labeling, and coordination with shipping/logistics for customer and internal shipments.
• Manage lab consumables and spare parts inventory — tracking usage, identifying reorder needs, and submitting purchase requisitions through SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
• Coordinate with external vendors for equipment repairs, service calls, and calibration pickups; follow up on open service tickets and maintain records of resolutions.
• Support ISO certification activities by maintaining accurate lab records, equipment logs, calibration certificates, and operational documentation in accordance with established procedures.
• Assist engineers with NPI and customer deliverable activities by preparing hardware, staging test setups, and ensuring materials are available and ready per schedule.
• Identify and escalate lab issues — equipment malfunctions, inventory shortages, facility concerns — to the Lab Operations Manager or engineering leads in a timely manner.
• Follow all lab safety protocols, ESD handling procedures, and cleanroom or controlled environment guidelines as applicable.

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
• 1–4 years of experience in a semiconductor, electronics, or RF lab environment, including hands-on bench work and equipment operation.
• Practical experience handling and operating RF and electronic test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
• Familiarity with ATE platforms; exposure to the Advantest 93K and/or Chroma handlers is a plus.
• Basic understanding of semiconductor device handling, ESD precautions, and reliability test board (BIB/loadboard) setups.
• Experience with lab inventory management, asset tracking, or equipment calibration coordination.
• Working familiarity with ERP or procurement systems such as SAP for tracking purchase requisitions and asset records is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written procedures, maintain accurate logs, and escalate anomalies appropriately.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Ability to lift and move lab equipment as needed and work in a hands-on lab setting.
