Responsibilities

  • Collect, track, log, and test sludge samples from clients.
  • Coordinate logistics for shipment of samples and timelines.
  • Perform bench testing for thickening/dewatering with polymers; record results.
  • Prepare and ship samples for full bench testing in Germany.
  • Maintain lab order and cleanliness; manage supplies and reports.
  • Track all test results in results database.
  • Assist with sludge analysis for startup and performance testing.

Part Time Denver, NC, US

Salary: $21.00 Annually

JOB SUMMARY

Excellent regular part-time lab/work experience in a busy office environment for the U.S. headquarters of a German manufacturer of wastewater treatment equipment and exposure to the various processes of the company. Approximately 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collect, track, log, and test sludge samples which are submitted to our laboratory from clients.
  • Communicate with clients logistics of the sludge samples including but not limited to
    • Ship coolers for sample collection
    • Communicate timeline and dates for shipment of samples
  • Sludge bench testing for thickening and dewatering including but not limited to::
    • Mixing different polymers at different concentrations with sludge and recording the results.
    • Preparing measured sludge samples to be analyzed for moisture content and recording the results.
    • Recording sludge chemical characteristics.
  • Bench Testing for Dryers including but not limited to
    • Form extruded material from customer supplied cake sample with bench test extruder
    • Dry sludge in the oven
    • Document with pictures sludge extrusion and drying
    • Prepare and ship samples for shipment for full bench testing in Germany
  • Bench Testing for Grit as required
  • Bench Testing for DAF as required
  • Bench Testing for Strainpress as required including
    • Testing chemical and physical parameters of sludge samples.
    • Testing moisture and organic characteristics of screenings.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in the laboratory.
  • Coordination for disposal of tested material
  • Keep track of supplies and alert supervisor when orders need placed.
  • Prepare bench test reports for review by applicable Product Manager.
  • Track all test results in results database
  • Assist with sludge analysis for startup and performance testing
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Skills and Special Requirements
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to measure weights and volumes.
  • Familiarity with general laboratory safety guidelines.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisor responsibilities.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions and ability to adjust focus.
  • Job will generally be performed in a Lab environment, but may require travel to and from a wastewater treatment plant. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply. Would need to be able to meet and follow all safety guidelines in the Lab as well as off-site. Dress is business casual and Protective Personal Equipment is supplied as well as lab coat.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Lite to Moderate physical demands, sitting, walking, bending, able to stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • It is a safety requirement at Huber that lab personnel have current Tetanus, Hepatitis A & B vaccines due to the nature of the lab work.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a Part-Time Standard days and hours of work flexible, working within Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, or other hours if approved by direct manager.

TRAVEL

Travel not required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Associates or Bachelor recommended preferred or education and experience combined

Lab experience required

Preferred majors: Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering – Civil, Chemical, Environmental
