Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a Laboratory Tech I to support quality and lab issues in our aerospace-focused PCC Airfoils operation. You will apply technical skills to alloy preparation, cast sectioning, and heat-treat evaluations to help resolve production challenges.

The position requires a high school diploma with potential engineering-related coursework, is entry level with moderate supervision, and offers development in a safety-conscious, certification-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Prefer 2 years of technical education in an engineering-related field.
  • Entry level position with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical and commercial issues to resolve quality and lab problems.
  • Prepare alloy types commonly found in the aerospace industry.
  • Sectioning of complex castings.
  • Interpretation of heat treatment microstructures and evaluation of production samples for IGA/IGO, surface conditions and porosity.
  • Develop and refine laboratory procedures and documentation.
  • Review and approve heat treat, HIP, coating, and other processes and incoming materials.
  • Perform SATs and Temperature Uniformity Surveys in Heat Treat.
  • Maintain certifications for special processes and conduct Nadcap and customer audits.

REPORTS TO: QUALITY MANAGER / LAB SUPERVISOR
SALARY GRADE: 1NE REVISION DATE: 11/03
JOB FUNCTION:

Executes the assigned duties as necessary to support technical and commercial issues as required to resolve quality and/ or lab problems.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for application issues and supports the department with technical related skills.
  • Must have good working knowledge of the following:
  • preparation of alloy types commonly found in the aerospace industry.
  • sectioning of complex castings.
  • interpretation of common heat treatment microstructures.
  • Interpretation and disposition of production samples for IGA, IGO, surface conditions and porosity measurements.
  • Advanced skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient in producing large process substantiation packages.
  • Contributing to the development, refinement and implementation of laboratory procedures and documentation.
  • Review and approve Heat treat, HIP, coating, other special processes and incoming materials.
  • Perform System Accuracy (SATs) and Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS) in Heat Treat.
  • Maintain customer and internal certifications for special processes.
  • Perform audits included Heat Treat Nadcap and customer.
EDUCATION:

High school education required. Prefer 2 years of technical education in an engineering-related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Entry level.

SUPERVISION:

Moderate supervision received. No supervisory responsibility.
