Job summary

SGS is hiring a Laboratory Technician for Automotive & Hardgoods in New Jersey. This full-time role involves sample preparation, analysis, and various physical tests on consumer goods, with documentation and data-entry responsibilities.

Candidates should have technical education in science/engineering and prior lab or manufacturing experience. The role requires mechanical aptitude, ability to use hand/power tools and equipment, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Technical education or degree in science, engineering, technology or related field preferred.
• Previous laboratory, testing, manufacturing, engineering, quality, or technical experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate hand/tools and lab equipment.
• Strong attention to detail with accurate documentation and interpretation of test results.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn lab data-entry and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Sample preparation and analysis following published test methods and SOPs.
• Organize test samples including consumer goods such as DIY items, paper goods, plastic products and shipping containers.
• Prepare test specimens using hand and power tools.
• Perform destructive and non-destructive physical testing on samples.
• Record test results in handwritten datasheets, printouts and electronic data entry.
• Maintain, operate and validate laboratory equipment and instruments.
