Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Food and Nutrition, seeks a Laboratory Technician (Lab Tech 2) to perform complex procedures under direct supervision in a clinical/research lab, manage formulas, and maintain equipment and records.

This 90% time role features a 6:30am–7:00pm schedule, three days per week with a two-week rotating weekend cycle. Pay starts at about $19.09/hour, with duties spanning preparation, delivery, QA, and inventory support.

Qualifications

• Two years of related laboratory experience, including one year at Laboratory Technician I level.
• Certification as a Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or a combination of related post high school education and experience totaling two years.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and label specialty formulas for patient areas.
• Deliver specialty and stock formulas to patient areas.
• Prepare standardized mixes of chemicals per established procedures.
• Support diet plans, maintain lab area and equipment.
• Monitor and order formulas to maintain parity in storage rooms.
• Complete QA records for formula room equipment and delivery.
• Clean and maintain the laboratory area and equipment.
• Create inventory reports and perform simple equipment maintenance.
• Report stock deficiencies and assist with supplies management.

Lab Tech 2

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food and Nutrition is seeking a Laboratory Technician. This position under direct supervision, performs difficult technical procedures and allied duties related to a function of a clinical, environmental, teaching or research laboratory; maintains laboratory area and equipment.

Percent of Time: 90%

Schedule: 6:30am - 7:00pm 3 days a week - Two week rotating schedule with rotating weekends

Pay: 19.09 per hour.

• Prepare and label specialty formulas
• Deliver specialty and stock formulas to patient area.
• Prepares the preparation of standardized mixes of chemicals according to established procedures.
• Performs duties related to diet plans, cleaning, experimental observations and records, etc.
• Monitor and order formulas as needed to maintain par levels of formula in the formula storage room -Complete required quality assurance records for formula room equipment and formula delivery -Cleans and maintains the laboratory area and equipment.
• Makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment.
• Maintains supplies and equipment in laboratory area and reports stock deficiencies.
• Respond to telephone and voalte inquiries from patient units and healthcare providers

Qualifications

Minimum Eligibility Requirements: Lab Tech II -

• Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or Certification as a Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.
• Special Qualification/License: Possession of appropriate driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
