Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician (LST III) to join the provider care team in the Laboratory. You will perform specimen collection, processing, transport, and referral of all specimen types, while supporting reports and scheduling to ensure timely lab service.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least one year of phlebotomy or clinical lab experience; Mercy values compassionate customer service and adherence to HIPAA and safety policies.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 1 year phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience.
• Mercy LST II designation or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support reports, data and scheduling functions in the laboratory.
• Acquire required specimen types for testing using safe, accurate methods.
• Process, transport and refer laboratory specimens and reports.
• Assist technologists in laboratory testing and maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Provide excellent customer service consistent with Mercy standards.

This position is responsible for accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support mechanisms. The LST III will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service Standards with all customer interactions. The LST III is responsible for the skillful acquisition of all required types of specimens for laboratory testing utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies as required. The LST III will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. The LST III is responsible for limited laboratory testing and for assisting technologists in all appropriate test methods as required. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Experience: One year phlebotomy or clinical laboratory experience. Previous Mercy LST II designation or equivalent experience.

• Satisfactorily complete the specific facility competencies, including but not limited to checklist, written examination, management observation, etc., to be eligible for advancement to the next higher job description.
• Have no active disciplinary actions or active performance improvement plans.
• Successfully complete the probationary period.
  

Preferred Qualifications

Education: College level chemistry, Biology or other Science courses
Experience: Phlebotomy preceptor experience.
