Job summary

Miami Children’s Hospital in Miami is seeking a Lab Assistant (Full Time, Days) to perform clerical duties and process laboratory specimens under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor and Director of Operations.

The role requires handling PKU newborn tests, maintaining temperature logs, ensuring PPE compliance, and entering results into Cerner. A high school diploma and customer service experience in a busy setting are preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology desired.
• Ability to adapt calmly under pressure and follow policies.

Responsibilities

• Process laboratory specimens following department policies.
• Deliver routine, timed, and stat specimens within specified turnaround times.
• Send PKU tests to the State lab and prepare packing lists.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance for centrifuge equipment with engineering.
• Complete temperature reports for freezers and refrigerators.
• Scan PKU results into the EMR and upload patient documents into Cerner.
• Answer phones and take messages as needed.
• Obtain supplies for specimen collections.
