Qualifications

• Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience Preferred: At least one year of medical laboratory, clerical or secretarial experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens from multiple locations and records patient data and test orders accurately.
• Verifies that the specimen is properly labeled with two patient identifiers, date and time of collection.
• Attaches printed labels to specimens from physician offices if necessary and completes the order with essential documentation.
• Verifies insurance information and supports Hospital registration and/or physician practices for billing.
• Investigates test requisitions with missing information from physician offices or off-sites.
• Issues ABN forms to patients when tests do not meet medical necessity.
• Prepares specimens for shipments to reference laboratories.
• Interacts with reference labs, physician offices, clinicians, and others, providing patient-focused service.
• Orders and stocks supplies to maintain inventory levels for reference labs.
