Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Lab Supervisor to coordinate the assigned laboratory, direct technical activities, and supervise personnel, ensuring compliance with established standards and efficient operation.

You will oversee onboarding and training of technicians and graduate students, contribute to quality control, manage inventory, and assist with budget planning and policy development in collaboration with faculty.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques.
• Experience documenting and following procedures/protocols.
• Knowledge of procedures, instruments in use, and quality control measures within the laboratory.
• Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and conducting regular assessments to record the lab's equipment performance.
• Ability to operate in a fast paced environment with established time constraints.
• Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates activities of the Lab with responsibility for directing the technical activities of the assigned laboratory and its personnel.
• Manages laboratory services and maintains an efficient laboratory environment.
• Supervises all lab personnel, onboards and trains new technicians and graduate students working in the assigned laboratory.
• Researches and develops new procedures to ensure quality control and efficiency of operation for the laboratory.
• Manages inventory and maintenance of supplies throughout the laboratory.
• Provides input into the development of departmental policies and procedures, assists with developing new technical procedures and ensures services are performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices.
• Researches current scientific literature for new or improved research protocols; works closely with Faculty, other research staff members and technicians concerning scientific, research and administrative matters.
• Assists the department director in budget preparation and personnel evaluations.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
