Job summary

Labcorp seeks a Laboratory Supervisor for our Durham, NC facility. You will oversee day-to-day lab operations, supervise staff, and ensure timely, accurate test results.

The role requires a chemistry/biology-focused degree and multiple years of clinical lab experience, with ASCP/AMT certification preferred. The position involves training, regulatory compliance, and process improvements, with an 1:00pm–9:30pm schedule and opportunities to lead high-volume operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• 4 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification.
• Understanding of laboratory operations and policies (CLIA/CAP).
• Ability to work in a high-volume laboratory and adapt to regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operations of the department/lab.
• Ensure laboratory tests are accurately performed and results reported.
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory personnel.
• Monitor daily workflow and schedule adequate assay coverage.
• Ensure proper staffing across shifts and departments.
• Research and resolve production errors and escalate when needed.
• Engage in continuous process improvements and service level goals.
• Maintain equipment through Quality Control and QA records.
• Evaluate new process improvements and make recommendations.
• Provide coaching and feedback to direct reports for development.
• Perform bench work as needed and maintain competency in operations.
• Ensure compliance with state and Federal regulations and corporate policies.
• Process and maintain payroll and personnel files; perform admin duties.

Job Overview

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at our facility in Durham, NC.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 1:00pm - 9:30pm

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise the day to day operations of the Department/Lab Name department
• Ensure laboratory tests are accurately performed and results are reported in a timely manner
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory personnel of the department
• Monitor daily workflow in the lab and schedule adequate assay coverage
• Responsible for ensuring all shifts in the department are properly staffed
• Research and resolve any production errors while escalating when necessary
• Engage in continuous process and service level improvements
• Ensure all equipment is being properly maintained through Quality Control
• Prepare and maintain Quality Assurance records and documents
• Evaluate new process improvements and make appropriate recommendations
• Meet regularly with direct reports to provide coaching and feedback for their development
• Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency/competency in technical operations
• Ensure all work is in accordance with state and Federal regulations
• Responsible for administering and managing policies and procedures
• Process and maintain payroll and personnel files
• Perform administrative duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
• 4 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 6 months or more of supervising or leading a team
• ASCP or AMT certification

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
