Job summary

Mass General Brigham’s Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital is seeking a laboratory support professional to manage pre-analytical specimen processing and safe handling of biohazardous materials. You will assist in registering, labeling, and delivering specimens while coordinating with technologists and client services.

Qualifications

• Education – High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
• Licenses and Credentials – MLA (ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred.
• Experience – Experience in a hospital Laboratory 3-5 years preferred. Internship or equivalent 0-1 year required.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards. Must demonstrate annual CAP competencies in any area that they work.

Responsibilities

• Verifies that correct specimen and labeling requirements are met for test orders.
• Correctly and accurately registers and labels tubes as appropriate.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to department policy.
• Sorts, stores, and delivers laboratory specimens by department and specimen requirements, as appropriate.
• Works with medical technologists and client services to resolve specimen problems.
• Answers telephones and provides assistance as needed.
