Job summary

Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY is seeking a Specimen Management Tech for the Long Pond Lab to ensure accurate registration, data entry of testing orders, and proper preparation of laboratory samples.

You will work 40 hours per week with 8-hour, evening/night shifts, every other weekend rotation and rotating holidays. Experience with HIS/LIS systems and collaboration with clinical staff is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must understand written instructions and transmit information accurately.
• Data entry and computer skills are required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and billing issues is preferred.
• For Medical Technology Student Intern: enrollment in a Medical Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Enter and label laboratory samples accurately and timely.
• Prepare samples for laboratory testing.
• May operate imaging system and retrieve requisitions as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of HIS and LIS systems and navigate them appropriately.
• Communicate with floors and physicians about tests, results, and labeling issues.
• May transport specimens between departments.
• Assist in transferring and testing specimens to other labs as required.
• Perform basic procedures under licensed staff supervision for interns.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
