Job summary

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to screen and accession specimens into LIS, reconcile specimen information, and coordinate transport between providers and laboratories. Minimum qualifications include a High School Graduate with 0–6 months laboratory experience and strong communication and data entry skills.

Responsibilities

• Accept specimens from delivery personnel and verify labels and requisitions.
• Notify personnel for unacceptable samples and resolve issues per SOP.
• Process and accession samples, maintain LIS work queues, and handle time‑sensitive protocols.
• Register patients and place orders from requisitions.
• Answer phones and provide customer service to Laboratory staff.
• Prepare samples for automated instrumentation and enter required information.
• Arrange courier pickups and maintain clean, organized work areas.
• Follow PPE and safety guidelines and train new accessioning staff.
• Process specimens for referral to outside labs and track results.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
