Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree plus 4+ years related experience or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
  • Alternative: 8+ years of related experience or an equivalent combo.
  • Demonstrated metrology and laboratory test know-how.

Responsibilities

  • Operate metrology equipment and perform functional tests like chromatography and spectroscopy.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and work with OEMs to resolve failures.
  • Identify root causes and support MTNC investigations as needed.
  • Maintain calibration, audits, and metrology control plan compliance.
  • Train technicians in lab procedures and tool usage.
  • Assist customers with test results interpretation and SPC insights.
  • Improve lab throughput and implement process improvements.
  • Develop and refine complex processes to meet customer needs.
  • Maintain cleanroom protocols and equipment recipes for monitoring.
  • Publish technical documentation and contribute to conference/journal work.

Job description

Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Lab Specialist I. This position will be located in Rolla, MO.

Summary

Lab Specialists are skilled technicians that conduct research on various materials. They perform applicable tests, data entry, documentation, and other assigned tasks. They can troubleshoot issues, complete POS forms, and ship samples.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of metrology and laboratory equipment, including performing key functional tests (e.g., chromatography, spectroscopy) and maintaining control charts.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues by working with OEMs and using specific tools to overcome common failures, escalating when beyond scope.
  • Determine root causes of unexpected or negative results and assist with non-calibration control plan responses or MTNC investigations as needed.
  • Ensure accurate use, storage, and maintenance of inspection, measuring, and test equipment for precision and reliability.
  • Support compliance with standards and controls by completing required audits, trend reviews, and documentation.
  • Train and mentor other technicians in the use of laboratory and metrology tools and testing procedures.
  • Assist customers in interpreting test results and provide technical insight into product testing and SPC (Statistical Process Control).
  • Show initiative in minimizing unprocessed samples and improving overall lab throughput and efficiency.
  • Contribute to process improvement by generating and implementing ideas that enhance testing quality or workflow.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and improve complex processes or products to meet specific customer needs, including generating and implementing process improvement ideas.
  • Operate with extensive knowledge of cleanroom protocols and equipment, creating equipment-specific recipes and maintaining control charts for process monitoring.
  • Master and perform key functional and analytical tests (e.g., chromatography, spectroscopy) on products, raw materials, and intermediates.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all laboratory and metrology equipment, identifying and troubleshooting issues independently with consideration for time sensitivity.
  • Take full responsibility for instrumentation maintenance, including calibration, audits, corrective actions, and compliance with the metrology control plan.
  • Train new personnel in cleanroom procedures, test equipment operation, and protocol compliance.
  • Support data analysis and compilation for various projects and contribute to technical documentation.
  • Participate in drafting publications for conferences and journal articles.
Education & Credentials
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant technical field and 4+ years of related experience or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
