Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) in Seattle, WA is seeking a Lab Space Planner to support a Fortune 500 technology client. You will lead lab space planning projects from requirements through design validation and handoff, translating infrastructure needs into actionable space plans with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years in lab or facilities planning, strong CAD skills, data visualization ability, and excellent communication to present to executives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Facility Management, Space Planning, or related technical discipline.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in lab space planning or facilities planning within corporate real estate environments.
  • Deep technical knowledge of laboratory operations, specialized equipment, and MEP infrastructure including power systems, HVAC requirements, acoustical design, and structural considerations.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD tools for creating detailed space plans and technical drawings.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft/G-Suite applications and data visualization platforms for reporting and analysis.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage multiple concurrent workstreams, and thrive in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive lab space planning projects from initial requirements gathering through design validation and implementation handoff.
  • Develop blocking and stacking exercises, FROM/TO scenarios, and test fit layouts addressing power, HVAC, acoustics, and equipment needs.
  • Collaborate with MEP consultants to validate feasibility for laboratory operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with lab owners, leadership, and client teams to align space with evolving requirements.
  • Create executive-ready lab planning binders with options analysis and technical recommendations.
  • Consolidate laboratory data into tracking systems and maintain real-time dashboards for status and metrics.
  • Coordinate across occupancy planning, facility management, engineering, project management, and construction teams for integrated delivery.

What this job involves:

Join JLL supporting the Amazon Global Real Estate & Facilities account as a Lab Space Planner. This role is supporting a leading Technology Division client's sophisticated laboratory planning initiatives. In this high-impact role, you'll serve as the technical authority on specialized lab environments, translating complex infrastructure requirements into actionable space plans that enable cutting-edge research and development. You'll collaborate with executive leadership, lab managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver strategic lab planning solutions that balance operational needs with business objectives. This position offers the opportunity to shape laboratory environments for a Fortune 500 technology client while working within JLL's industry-leading corporate real estate platform.

What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Lead comprehensive lab space planning projects from initial requirements gathering through design validation and implementation handoff, ensuring seamless delivery
  • Develop blocking and stacking exercises, FROM/TO scenarios, and test fit layouts that address power distribution, structural loads, HVAC capacity, acoustical requirements, and specialized equipment placement
  • Collaborate with MEP consultants to validate technical feasibility including power loads, structural capacity, mechanical systems, and infrastructure adequacy for laboratory operations
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with lab owners, Business Unit Leadership, Lab Managers, and Client Strategic Lab teams to understand evolving space and operational requirements
  • Create executive-ready lab planning binders featuring options analysis, technical recommendations, and decision frameworks that support leadership priorities
  • Consolidate laboratory data into comprehensive tracking systems and maintain real-time dashboards showing project status, completion metrics, and outstanding requirements
  • Coordinate across JLL Occupancy Planning, Facility Management, Engineering, Project Management, and Construction teams to ensure integrated project delivery
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Facility Management, Space Planning, or related technical discipline
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in lab space planning or facilities planning within corporate real estate environments

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage multiple concurrent workstreams, and thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technology industry experience with understanding of tech sector lab requirements and operational models
  • NCIDQ/CIDA, LEED AP, or other relevant professional certifications
  • Experience with facility management systems such as Tririga or Archibus for space and asset management
  • Track record managing large-scale campus consolidations, lab relocations, or multi-building laboratory programs
  • Knowledge of occupancy utilization metrics, workplace analytics, and collaborative workplace design concepts
  • Experience presenting to C-level executives and influencing strategic real estate decisions
  • Familiarity with sustainable lab design practices and energy-efficient laboratory systems

Estimated compensation for this position:

110,000.00 – 150,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
