Job summary

UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to provide patient care, schedule services, and perform phlebotomy in the Rex Wakefield Laboratory. You will answer phones, register patients, collect specimens, and maintain LIS/ADT/EMR accuracy. Strong customer service and PPE discipline are required.

Education requires a high school diploma or GED; phlebotomy certification is preferred. Depending on experience, related training may be considered.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
Phlebotomy certificate strongly preferred.
If HS diploma, one year of phlebotomy experience required; if graduation from a phlebotomy program, no previous experience required.

Responsibilities

Wears appropriate PPE at all times and keeps a clean, stocked work area.
Answers phones, takes messages, and relays information; communicates professionally with coworkers.
Registers patients and orders tests in the LIS/ADT and EMR systems; keeps software up to date.
Obtains demographic information and enters it into the information system; completes forms as required.
Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, and culture collection per policy; maintains patient ID.
Registers outreach specimens and ensures proper labeling and protocol integrity.
Maintains supplies and inventory; flags inventory concerns and follows SOPs.
Responsible for training, reading procedures, and continuing education per policy.
