Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a motivated hourly Lab/Research Technician to work in a behavioral pharmacology laboratory on NIH-funded research. The role focuses on daily care, handling and drug administration to laboratory animals, and managing behavioral testing sessions with IV drug self-administration and observation scoring.

The position involves data recording, drug solution preparation, sterile technique, and maintaining IV lines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of lab experience.
• Dependable and detail-oriented.
• Ability to work with supervisor and lab personnel.

Responsibilities

• Animal handling and health assessment.
• Administer drug treatments to subjects.
• Use computer systems to initiate and perform behavioral testing.
• Routine laboratory maintenance and cleaning.
• Monitor supply levels and rotate stock.
• Assist with surgical procedures and prepare subjects.
• Accurately record and maintain daily experimental data.
