Job summary

Old Dominion University is seeking a Lab & Research Technician I to manage undergraduate teaching labs, perform setup, inventory control, and ensure instrument calibration. The role includes supervising student labs and assisting faculty with requisitions and equipment purchases.

The candidate will maintain lab inventories, coordinate with procurement, and support ETF equipment installations and maintenance across MDTS programs.

Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of general laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety techniques.
• Working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and math skills involved in media and reagent preparation.
• Working knowledge of quality control, inventory, instrument calibration and maintenance, and operation of office reproducing equipment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain records; to record and report results/outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to lead or direct the work of others.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of undergraduate and certificate medical laboratory science teaching laboratories including setup, stock culture maintenance, inventory control, and equipment calibration/maintenance.
• Assist in supervision during student labs, especially as related to instrument operation.
• Address faculty requisitions across MDTS programs and assist in procuring supplies and ETF equipment purchases.
• Maintain inventory of clerical and laboratory equipment and coordinate with faculty and procurement for acquisitions.
