Job summary

The University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) Facilities and Operations seeks a Capital Project Manager to oversee renovation and capital projects, with a focus on complex laboratory and research environments. You will coordinate with faculty, researchers, and technical staff to deliver safe, compliant, high-performing spaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, interior design, construction management, or related field.
• Minimum 5–7 years of experience managing capital projects, including renovations and construction.
• Experience managing laboratory or research space projects and teaching labs.
• Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and managing project budgets, schedules, and contracts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with building codes, ADA requirements, and lab safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate capital projects including renovations and infrastructure improvements.
• Lead projects through programming, design, construction, and occupancy phases.
• Develop and manage scopes, budgets, and schedules; ensure funding alignment.
• Monitor expenditures and approve payments per budgets.
• Inspect field conditions and construction progress for quality and safety.
• Identify and resolve issues, risks, and conflicts with stakeholders.
• Manage renovation and construction of laboratory spaces and teaching labs.
• Coordinate with faculty, researchers, and staff on requirements, equipment, and safety.
• Ensure compliance with codes, safety standards, and university guidelines for labs.
• Support phased renovation planning to minimize disruption to research and instruction.
• Serve as liaison among faculty, contractors, consultants, and university partners.
