Job summary

SecureBio is seeking a Research Associate I in Cambridge, MA to support the sequencing pipeline. You’ll handle sample processing, concentration, extraction, and library prep, with additional molecular support on weekends. You’ll document thoroughly and follow SOPs in a fast-growing, collaborative lab.

You’ll contribute to automation rollout and gain hands-on training while helping the team improve turnaround times and throughput.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences field (required).
  • 2+ years of hands-on wet-lab experience.
  • Hands-on sample processing, PCR, and nucleic acid extraction/quantification.
  • Data entry in an electronic lab notebook (ELN).
  • Ability to follow laboratory SOPs and capture organized notes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to take on lab upkeep tasks alongside science work.
  • Proactive mindset: flag issues and suggest workflow improvements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly in a small team.

Responsibilities

  • Process samples: receive wastewater and nasal swabs, perform concentration and extraction, and quantify.
  • Support molecular processing and library prep, including weekend coverage.
  • Document work rigorously in the ELN and follow SOPs.
  • Maintain clean, ready spaces and lab equipment; support upkeep and service requests.
  • Maintain reagent inventory, stock monitoring, reorders, deliveries, and vendor coordination.
  • Maintain accurate metadata and sample tracking; ensure smooth handoffs to next stage.
  • Troubleshoot workflow issues and escalate to senior staff when needed.
