Job Summary The Lab Procurement Specialist supports the purchasing team in acquiring commodities, equipment, services, and contracts. Responsibilities include processing purchase requisitions, providing telephone assistance, and following up with suppliers regarding pricing and delivery timelines. Working under the direction of the Contract Administrator / Purchasing Supervisor, this role assists with evaluating new contracts, managing renewals, and ensuring prudent purchasing practices.

Key Responsibilities for a Lab Procurement Specialist

• Requisition & Order Processing: Review purchase requisitions for accuracy, clarity, and proper approval. Prepare purchase orders detailing vendor information, quantities, pricing, and terms. Place orders via EDI, phone, or electronic methods, ensuring accurate contract pricing.
• Vendor & Contract Management: Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions alongside leadership. Conduct informal bidding for goods and services per policy. Investigate alternative supply sources and recommend cost-effective product alternatives.
• Operations & Liaison Support: Coordinate equipment repair requests and process related documentation. Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned commodity groups, providing literature and guidance to internal departments.
• Problem Resolution: Collaborate with department managers, receiving staff, vendors, and accounts payable to resolve invoice discrepancies and delivery issues.
• Relationship Building: Build strong partnerships with department managers to understand departmental goals, service needs, and relevant product advancements.

Qualifications for a Lab Procurement Specialist

• Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in a purchasing department or related field within a healthcare setting.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience utilizing PeopleSoft within a healthcare, research, or laboratory environment is highly preferred. Strong data entry skills and foundational knowledge of purchasing contracts and vendor negotiations.
