POSITION PURPOSE
The Lab Operator supports production and shipping by performing functions to ensure products meet quality requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Safely operate testing equipment (Tensile, Charpy, Bend & Brinell) and machining equipment (HDMI-plasma cutter & CNC machine.)
- Safely operate sample preparation equipment and demonstrate the ability to learn MES and lab test requirements.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Cross train in all other labs to provide coverage as needed.
- Complete all training within designated timeframes and attend all required meetings.
- Understand and support the company’s goals and values and adhere to company, department, safety, quality, environmental, and ethics policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience (or the ability to learn) in the operation of CNC Machining equipment preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to interpret industry specifications (ASTM/EN/API/ABS/CSA.)
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Good communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain safe work area.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES / DIRECT REPORTS
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee will be required to sit, stand, and/or walk as follows:
- Sitting 1-4 hours at a time; average 6 hours a day
- Standing 1 hour at a time; average 1 hour a day
- Walking 1 hour at a time; average 1 hour a day
- Alternate sitting, standing, and walking as needed
The position requires the following talking, vision and hearing capabilities:
- Talking person to person, on the phone, and in a group setting
- Hearing in person, on the phone, and in group a setting
- Vision at near, midrange, far, and peripheral vision
- Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
The position requires the following pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying capabilities:
- Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds or less
The employee will occasionally be required to:
- Stooping and kneeling
- Reaching above shoulder
The employee will frequently be required to:
- Reaching and twisting at and below waist/desk level
- Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with left hand and with both hands together
- Fingering with both hands together or separately
- Feel with both hands together or separately; sense temperature and textures with both hands together or separately
The employee will constantly be required to:
- Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with both hands together or separately
The employee will be required to work in the following conditions: (While wearing safety equipment and/or clothing for protection from hazards)
- Inside
- In extreme hot temperatures
- Amid fumes/dust/dirt/smoke
- Around equipment in motion
- Amid noise
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime
- Position works (12) hours a day, rotating shifts to include both days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Overtime coverage for personnel on other shifts is expected.
