Job summary

Valpaks Engineering LLC ( A Hanwha Company) in Cheshire, CT is seeking a Metrologist to support the Quality Department and collaborate with Engineering on measurement methods, calibration, and inspection system capability.

The role focuses on establishing measurement procedures, selecting appropriate equipment, and providing training and technical support to inspectors to ensure product conformity and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Metrology, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Engineering, or related technical field; equivalent experience may be accepted.
• 3–7 years of experience in dimensional metrology, calibration, inspection, or aerospace manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of dimensional measurement principles.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Experience with calibration systems and measurement equipment.
• Ability to determine appropriate measurement equipment based on tolerance and application.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Establish measurement methods for dimensional and functional characteristics.
• Ensure inspection equipment has sufficient accuracy for required measurements.
• Assist in selecting measurement equipment for drawing characteristics.
• Develop and maintain measurement procedures and work instructions.

Valpaks Engineering LLC ( A Hanwha Company) is building a next-generation PMA organization focused on engineering-driven solutions, strong supplier partnerships, and accelerated time-to-market.

Position Summary:

The Metrologist reports to and supports the Quality Department while working closely with Engineering regarding measurement methods, equipment selection, calibration, measurement uncertainty, and inspection system capability.

The Metrologist will also perform inspections to verify compliance and work closely with Engineering to develop fixtures capable of multiple measurements at one time to both speed up the process and provide less variation of results from person to person.

Measurement System Management

• Establish appropriate measurement methods for dimensional and functional characteristics.
• Determine whether inspection equipment has sufficient accuracy for the required measurement.
• Assist others in selecting appropriate measurement equipment for specific drawing characteristics.
• Evaluate measurement resolution, accuracy, repeatability, and capability.
• Develop and maintain measurement procedures and work instructions.
• Support the selection and qualification of new inspection equipment.

Gauge and Fixture Control

• Establish inspection requirements for fixed and variable gauges.
• Establish calibration or verification intervals for inspection fixtures.
• Determine appropriate acceptance criteria for gauge verification.
• Ensure fixtures used to determine product conformity are properly identified and controlled.
• Support the design and qualification of inspection fixtures.

Inspection Support

• Provide technical support to inspectors regarding measurement methods.
• Train inspection personnel in proper use of measurement equipment.
• Develop standardized measurement techniques for difficult or critical characteristics.
• Assist with inspection problems involving:
• Geometric tolerances
• Surface finish
• Angles
• Radii
• Profiles
• Flatness
• Perpendicularity
• Position
• Contour measurements
• Assist in determining the appropriate inspection method when the drawing does not clearly specify a measurement technique.

Nonconformance and Corrective Action

• Support MRB and NCR investigations involving measurement equipment.
• Investigate discrepancies caused by measurement-system problems.
• Perform root-cause analysis of calibration failures.
• Evaluate historical measurements when equipment is found out of tolerance.
• Establish containment actions when measurement-system accuracy is questionable.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Trend calibration failures to identify recurring problems.
