Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is seeking a Lab Manager to oversee all aspects of clinical laboratory services. You will lead operations across site, ensure compliance, and partner with other departments to support patient care and performance improvement.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in CLS/MLS-related field, MLS/ASCP certification, and at least five years in a lab with leadership experience. Strong budgeting, staffing, and change‑management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry (required).
• MLS or ASCP Certification (required).
• 5 years of experience in a laboratory tech setting (required).
• Previous leadership experience in a laboratory tech environment (required).

Responsabilités

• Improve Laboratory operations and quality metrics; submit monthly reports.
• Manage department staffing, scheduling, onboarding, and budgeting.
• Evaluate staff performance with input from Leads or Supervisors.
• Coordinate regional laboratory committees and new procedures.
• Monitor expenses and participate in forecasting, planning, and capital budgeting.

Lab Manager – Lourdes Hospital

Job Summary

The Lab Manager oversees all aspects of laboratory services for the clinical laboratory at designated sites. The Lab Manager interacts with other hospital services to support the coordination of patient care activities as well as achieves performance improvement initiatives. As the Lab Manager, it is important to ensure policies and procedures are feasible by making compliance a key priority.

Essential Functions

• Works to improve Laboratory operations and establish objectives related to quality metrics; monitors quality indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and submits monthly reports of monitors
• Manages laboratory department including hiring, staffing, scheduling, and onboarding of new employees; schedules staff to meet laboratory service requirements, productivity goals, and staffing budget
• Evaluates the performance of department staff and completes performance assessments with input from Lead Technologists or Supervisors
• Serves as a facilitator for regional laboratory committees and coordinates activities for completion of projects and implementation of new procedures
• Monitors laboratory expenses to meet budgetary goals. Works with their leader and participates in forecasting, planning, and budgeting. Works with their leader and collaborates with other members of the management team to develop plans for capital replacement and acquisition.
• Other duties as assigned

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry (required)

Certifications

• Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or ASCP Certification (required)

Experience

• 5 years of experience in a laboratory tech setting (required)
• Previous experience in a leadership position in a laboratory tech environment (required)

Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrates leadership competencies and skills for the position, including excellent communication, customer service, continuous quality improvement, relationship development, and decision making
• Possesses extensive knowledge of clinical practice or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment
