Job summary

Lilly Medicine Foundry is seeking a Lab Manager to lead daily analytical laboratory operations and ensure safe, compliant execution. The role focuses on readiness for new programs, equipment installs, method transfers, and facility expansions.

The successful candidate will manage resources, schedules, and capacity forecasts, serve as the escalation point for issues, and promote a strong safety culture with adherence to quality and ALCOA principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology or related field.
• 5+ years’ experience in pharma/chem/biotech labs.
• Experience managing lab operations in a regulated environment.
• Ability to work safely with chemicals and PPE.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day analytical lab operations to ensure safe, efficient, compliant execution.
• Ensure lab readiness for new programs, equipment installations, and method transfers.
• Develop resource plans, schedules, and capacity forecasts; primary escalation point.
• Foster safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE requirements and quality standards.
• Maintain inspection readiness; support regulatory inspections and audits; apply 5S/ALCOA.
• Oversee equipment lifecycle: procurement, installation, qualification, calibration, maintenance.
• Manage lab asset inventories; monitor utilization and drive improvement.
• Lead productivity, automation, digitalization and cross-functional collaboration.

Lab Manager – Analytical Laboratories (Lilly Medicine Foundry)

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day analytical laboratory operations to ensure safe, efficient, compliant execution.
• Ensure lab readiness for new programs, equipment installations, method transfers, and facility expansions.
• Develop laboratory resource plans, schedules, and capacity forecasts; serve as primary escalation point for operational issues.
• Foster a safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE requirements; ensure activities comply with quality standards.
• Maintain inspection readiness; support regulatory inspections and audits; apply 5S and ALCOA.
• Oversee analytical equipment lifecycle (procurement, installation, qualification, calibration, maintenance, relocation, retirement).
• Manage lab asset inventories and critical materials; monitor utilization/performance and drive improvement.
• Lead initiatives for productivity, automation, digitalization, and operational excellence; drive digital workflows and data-driven improvement; cross-functional collaboration.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology (or related scientific discipline).
• 5+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical/chemical/biotechnology/process development laboratories.
• Experience managing lab operations in a regulated environment.
• Ability to work safely with chemicals and PPE in a lab environment.
• Full-time US work authorization required; employer will not sponsor visas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of analytical instrumentation (HPLC/UPLC/GC/LC-MS, dissolution, spectroscopy, particle characterization, microbiology).
• Equipment qualification/validation/lifecycle management.
• Familiarity with LIMS, Empower, ELN, Kneat, CMMS, and lab digital systems.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements, data integrity, and quality systems.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams.
