Job summary

Actus Nutrition in Wisconsin is seeking a Lab Manager to oversee the daily operations of the laboratory and ensure testing accuracy and timeliness. You will lead a team of lab technicians, ensure compliance with quality specifications, and drive continuous improvement across GMP practices.

Candidates should have 5+ years in a lab setting, 2+ years of leadership, and strong knowledge of QA, regulatory audits, and analytical testing of raw materials and finished products.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a laboratory setting, preferably in the dairy or food industry.
• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience with QA, GMP, and regulatory audits.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills; effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise QA technicians and sanitation staff.
• Assist with SOP development and safety requirements.
• Oversee EMP and Sanitation programs.
• Manage laboratory functions and analytical testing for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
• Perform calibration and maintenance of equipment.
• Drive GMP walk-throughs and internal quality audits.
• Notify QA Manager when analyses do not meet specs.
• Maintain safe storage of hazardous materials.
• Support audits as back-up SQF practitioner.
• Collaborate with QA Manager to improve quality systems.

The Lab Manager has the responsibility of overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all testing and results. This role ensures that all lab procedures meet regulatory and company standards, foster continuous improvement, and leads a team of lab technicians to perform a wide range of tests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• As part of the leadership team help drive culture change by leading as example with positive attitude and innovative thinking to contribute to the business strategy.
• Recruit, grow, direct, coach, lead and supervise all QA technicians and sanitation personnel.
• Assist with SOP development, quality specifications, safety, and job expectations.
• Manage and oversee EMP and Sanitation programs.
• Manage all lab functions including oversight of analytical testing on raw materials, packaging, in process samples and finished products ensuring compliance with all quality specifications.
• Conduct and document all equipment calibrations and maintenance.
• Drive improvements by doing GMP walk-throughs and quality audits of the facility to help identify best practices to fulfill business needs.
• Notify QA Manager & Plant Manager when physical or chemical analysis defines products/ingredients that do not meet specifications.
• Maintain and organize all storage locations for hazardous materials and supplies in a safe, well identified location.
• Assist with all customer and regulatory audits as back-up SQF practitioner for the FDL facility.
• Assist Quality Assurance Manager in building and improving quality systems.
• Work closely with QA Manager to assist with any other duties as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all company, state and federal safety and regulatory policies and practices.
• Take personal responsibility to engage in food safety practices to prevent hazards that cause foodborne illness or injury.
• Qualified and trained individual will provide as a back-up in the event of an absence of another employee.

Position Requirements:

• Experience in life science, nutrition, or related area.
• 5+ years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in the dairy or food industry.
• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and computer software applications.
• Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills. Previous supervisory experience.
