Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Lab Manager for a Boston onsite, 06+ months contract with long-term potential.

You will own the lab's daily rhythm, manage equipment, and coordinate cross-functional lab activities to support hardware R&D and robotics initiatives. The role requires 5+ years in lab operations within hardware R&D or robotics, experience standing up or expanding labs, EH&S exposure, and hands-on familiarity with test benches, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering and 3D

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing lab operations in hardware R&D, robotics, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Experience standing up a new lab or expanding an existing one.
  • Exposure to EH&S requirements in a research or prototype hardware context.
  • Experience in hyperscaler, robotics, or physical AI startup environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the daily rhythm of the lab from opening checks to end-of-day handoffs.
  • Coordinate lab scheduling across multiple engineering workstreams, balancing priorities.
  • Manage equipment availability, calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance cycles.
  • Maintain inventory of components, consumables, and tooling; own replenishment processes.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for lab-related questions from engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain the onsite lab operations playbook, documenting processes and safety protocols.
  • Support onboarding of new team members, including tool training and safety certification tracking.
  • Interface with facilities, IT, and procurement to resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Prepare for key lab milestones, ensuring readiness before engineering teams arrive.
  • Track and communicate lab capacity, equipment status, and readiness risks.
  • Establish and enforce lab safety procedures, including compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in lab workflows, identifying bottlenecks and proposing operational changes.

Job description

Immediate need for a talented Lab Manager. This is a 06+months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Boston, MA(Onsite).

Job ID:26-26426 Pay Range: $80 - $100/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the daily rhythm of the lab, from opening checks to end-of-day handoffs.
  • Coordinate lab scheduling across multiple engineering workstreams, balancing competing priorities.
  • Manage equipment availability, calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance cycles.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of components, consumables, and tooling; own replenishment processes.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for lab-related questions from engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain the onsite lab operations playbook, documenting processes and safety protocols.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • Background in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience standing up a new lab or significantly expanding an existing one.
  • Exposure to EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) requirements in a research or prototype hardware context.
  • Prior experience in a hyperscaler, robotics company, or physical AI startup environment.
  • 5+ years of experience managing lab operations in a hardware R&D, robotics, or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on familiarity with lab equipment common to physical AI or robotics environments — test benches, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering and rework stations, 3D printers, and similar.
  • Strong organizational instincts to build systems that keep a fast-moving team efficient.
  • Comfortable working directly with engineers, taking direction and constructively pushing back when necessary.
  • Experience with inventory management systems, equipment tracking, and procurement workflows.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, capable of creating clear documentation and resolving scheduling conflicts.
