Job summary

Michigan Sugar is seeking a Lab Leader for the Bay City facility to oversee daily laboratory operations, lead shift staff, and ensure accurate chemical analyses and data integrity. The role supports factory operations through advanced troubleshooting and data trend reporting.

The Lab Leader will manage lab stations, inventory, equipment maintenance, and QA/QC programs, while training new personnel and ensuring food safety practices.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• One year of general college chemistry required.
• Ability to operate sensitive laboratory instrumentation.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet and database applications.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all lab stations to ensure testing per SOPs and timelines.
• Manage inventory of sugar silos, molasses tanks, and juice tanks.
• Maintain QA/QC program for lab and plant instrumentation; ensure instruments function within tolerances.
• Lead training of new laboratory staff on techniques, reporting formats, and PPE.
• Ensure effective communication between sugar bench, sample carriers, and supervision.
