Job summary

Bon Secours in Virginia is seeking a Lab Lead to coordinate daily operations of the Processing Department. You will provide leadership and technical expertise to lab staff, ensure timely reporting of results, and support safety training.

You will handle scheduling, data collection, inventory, and troubleshooting of samples and customer issues. The role requires coordination skills, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to oversee staff training and performance reviews.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate Degree in Allied Health Sciences with Phlebotomy coursework preferred.
• Three years phlebotomy experience with EKG preferred.
• Leadership experience in a customer-service environment preferred.
• Experience in a laboratory setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate workflow for all aspects of laboratory support services.
• Perform phlebotomy and processing duties as needed.
• Monitor Lab Information System (LIS) reports for quality and compliance.
• Assist department leadership and support scheduling/timekeeping.
• Maintain quality assurance documentation for personnel.
• Implement area policies and procedures.
• Oversee training and staff orientation.
• Maintain accreditation standards (TJC and CAP) for the area.

Lab Lead Support Services - Processing Department

The Lab Lead functions as the department lead and coordinates the daily operations of the lab. They provide leadership and technical expertise to the lab assistants and couriers. In addition, working as the Lab Lead you will ensure that all testing results are reported within the required time frame, assist with safety training, resolve personnel issues, and provide input and documentation for performance reviews. Responsibilities include daily scheduling, data collection, inventory, and troubleshooting sample and customer issues.

Essential Functions

• Coordinates workflow related to all aspects of laboratory support services to include processing, phlebotomy, specimen transport, supply distribution, patient registration, and customer service.
• Performs all duties of phlebotomists and processors as needed.
• Monitors Lab Information System (LIS) reports and logs for compliance to assure pre-analytical processes are of highest quality.
• Assists leadership with department needs.
• Manages quality assurance documentation of personnel as needed.
• Provides oversight for scheduling and timekeeping.
• Implements policies and procedures as relates to specific area.
• Oversees training and orientation of personnel.
• Maintains standards of accreditation for The Joint Commission (TJC) and The College of American Pathologists (CAP) for specific area.

Education

• High School Degree or GED (required)
• Associate Degree, Allied Health Sciences – Phlebotomy with additional coursework (preferred)

Certifications

Phlebotomist Certification (preferred)

Experience

• Previous experience in a laboratory setting (preferred)
• Previous experience in leadership position in customer service environment (preferred)
• 3 years phlebotomy experience with EKG experience (preferred)
