Job summary

Synectics Inc. is seeking a Lab IT Services Engineer in San Diego to support the lab computing environment within a state‑of‑the‑art biomedical research center.

You will build and onboard specialized computing platforms, install scientific applications, and tailor configurations to meet stringent scientific and security requirements. The role requires hands‑on Windows troubleshooting for lab equipment, experience with biotech instrumentation, and familiarity with endpoint management tools.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
• Hands-on troubleshooting and support for Windows (Win10/Win11/Win11IoT) systems.
• Experience in Biotech or Biopharma relating to scientific instrumentation, software, and systems.
• Experience with scientific instruments and related hardware/software.
• Experience with endpoint management software (Altiris, Simple Help).
• Familiarity with Single Sign-On platforms (Imprivata).
• Strong customer service attitude and solution orientation.
• Excellent communication skills in English.

Description

• The Lab Technology/Lab IT Services department in San Diego, California delivers onsite excellence in technology and services to BR Laboratories in order to enable a secure, frictionless, digital user experience.
• The Lab IT Services Engineer will be responsible for providing support to the lab computing environment which demands uninterrupted service in a state-of-the-art biomedical research center.
• Specific emphasis of the role includes building, onboarding and managing specialized computing platforms, installing and configuring scientific applications, and customizing system configurations to meet and exceed scientific demands.
• Onboard new PCs and workstations to requested specifications, integrate the hardware, install and configure the operating software and ensure visibility to the network in accordance with the Standards and security guidelines.
• Utilize defined tools and templates and ensure correct methodology is used to reduce the impact on scientist's daily work.
• Manage and execute lab equipment integration and ensure compliant processes are applied to satisfy business and needs.
• Work directly with the scientists to understand their lab processes, data flow, infrastructure and research data in order to identify their informatics needs.
• Provide business analysis and technical expertise for the planning and definition of requirements, implementation and delivery phases of lab related IT projects.
• Create, track and close service tickets while delivering an excellent customer service experience with professionalism and confidence.
• Accountable to ensure adherence to quality standards as defined by Research Informatics (RX) organization.

Qualification

• Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
• At least 5 years of progressive experience with hands on troubleshooting and support for Windows (Win10/Win11/Win11IoT) systems
• Experience in Biotech or Biopharma as it relates to scientific instrumentation/vendors, software applications and systems
• Experience working with scientific instruments, plate readers, mass specs, liquid handlers, gene sequencers, purification systems, imaging instruments (In-Cells, Microscopes, Bia-Core etc..)
• Experience working with endpoint management software such as Altiris and Simple Help.
• Familiarity with Imprivata or other Single Sign-On platforms.
• Strong customer service attitude and solution orientation with ability to respond to changing needs and priorities quickly and efficiently
• Exceptional troubleshooting skills and experience supporting nonstandard software
• Scripting experience
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to peers and customers
• Strong English communication skills
• Shift timings : Mon-Fri 8-5 or 8.30-5.30
