Job summary

This is not a faculty position. Work is at the Midland College main campus in Midland, TX, with standard lab hours and occasional evening or weekend duties to meet program needs.

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

The lab instructor will coordinate with the full-time faculty and department chair to facilitate hands-on instruction with the students while working in the lab environment. Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process. Provide instructional support to the chair, dean, and students. This is not a faculty position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare the labs for classroom and lab activities
  • Maintain, clean, and keep records of the tools, supplies, and lab equipment
  • Perform maintenance inspections of shop equipment, monitor and maintain equipment in the lab and compound to ensure they are safe and suited for use in lab activities
  • Clean, maintain, and organize inside lab areas and exterior compound storage area
  • Instruct the students in the proper use and application of the software and equipment used in the labs
  • Assist students with lab assignmentsMaintain records of student activities performed in the lab
  • Instruct and assist other MC personnel with lab equipment as required
  • Occasionally instructs classes in the absence of the assigned faculty
  • Participate in recruiting, advising, and counseling activities
  • Work may require split day and evening work schedule to meet institutional and student needs and goals
  • Other duties as assigned
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and Certificate in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience to include classroom, lab, or welding experience
  • Computer literate
  • Communication skills with public speaking and strong organizational skills
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in related field
  • College and/or high school teaching experience
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Miller Live Arc Welding Trainer, EZ Router CNC Plasma Cutter, and associated CAD software
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical office

Business Hours

M-Th 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm

Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll)

Occasional travel (less than 10%)

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom occasionally
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity, including the operating lab equipment and apparatus that requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination
  • Capable of climbing stairs, balancing stooping, and repetitive twisting
  • Must be able to bend, reach overhead, and lift/move equipment in excess of 50 pounds
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
  • This position may require a split workday and/or an evening work schedule
  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a lab setting

Salary Range: $55,863-$60,892 annualized
