Job summary

Akkodis is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer for a 12-month contract with a client in Abbott Park IL 60064. The role is heavily lab-focused, with ~80% time spent diagnosing issues on PCBs, cables, fluidics, and mechanical hardware using oscilloscopes and other tools.

The candidate will independently identify root causes, test and document findings, and work with software, hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience; at least 6 months hands-on engineering experience.
• Experience troubleshooting electronic and electromechanical systems.
• Ability to independently investigate, diagnose, and resolve technical issues.
• Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
• Experience in a laboratory environment and repetitive testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on troubleshooting and fault isolation of PCBs, cables, fluidic systems, mechanical hardware, motors, valves, pumps, and related components.
• Utilize oscilloscopes and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve system issues.
• Conduct system runs, testing, evaluations, and engineering analyses to support product development and service engineering efforts.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, and firmware engineers to investigate and resolve technical issues.
• Execute design verification testing, document results, and generate engineering test reports.
• Build, modify, and evaluate prototype fixtures, tools, and breadboard assemblies.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including procedures, specifications, schematics, and mechanical layouts.
• Apply engineering principles and independent judgment to solve complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, process enhancements, and risk management activities.
• Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, quality requirements, and company procedures.
