Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a Plant Maintenance Technician to install, repair, and maintain essential plant systems for world‑class science. You will support diverse equipment, respond to alarms, and perform preventive maintenance to ensure safe, reliable facilities for researchers.

The role requires strong mechanical skills, LOTO expertise, and the ability to work with complex systems while adhering to safety policies.

Qualifications

• Four years+ of work experience in mechanical maintenance, plant operations, or fabrication.
• Completion of a recognized four-year apprenticeship in plant maintenance or an accredited two-year program with relevant experience.
• Ability to diagnose and take corrective actions with minimal instruction.
• Ability to read piping diagrams and blueprints.
• Must have a valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair boilers, pumps, air handling units, and related systems.
• Monitor FMCS, respond to alarms, and address abnormal site conditions.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on fixed and portable equipment.
• Implement lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety protocols.
• Provide safe, reliable facility infrastructure for research operations.
