Job summary

Berkeley Lab seeks a Plant Maintenance Technician in the Facilities division to install, repair and maintain critical lab equipment and systems essential for world-class science. You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to alarms, and carry out repairs to boilers, air handling units, pumps, and water systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Qualifications

• Four years or more of mechanical maintenance/work experience or completion of a four-year apprenticeship in plant maintenance or equivalent.
• Ability to diagnose and effect appropriate corrective actions without detailed instruction.
• Ability to read piping diagrams and blueprints.
• Must have a valid California Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and make mechanical repairs to boilers, air handlers, pumps, chillers, and related systems.
• Monitor FMCS alarms and respond to abnormal site conditions.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of equipment.
• Implement safety procedures including LOTO and safety compliance.
• Provide safe, reliable facility infrastructure for the research community.
